Theresa Mitchell
REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST
Before becoming a psychologist, Theresa worked in social services and out-of-home care, including as an intensive needs foster carer, and across school, correctional, and outreach settings with children, young people, and adults. Alongside clinical practice, she is the Founder and CEO of Agape Outreach Inc., a grassroots charity supporting people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, and financial hardship across Northern New South Wales and the Gold Coast. Through this work she has developed extensive experience over 17 years of supporting individuals facing complex trauma and social disadvantage. Theresa is also the author of Stories from the Streets and host the podcast Agape: Love in Action, which shares the stories of people creating positive change within their communities. In recognition of this work, she was named 2024 NSW Regional Woman of the Year and 2026 NSW Local Hero in the Australian of the Year Awards.
Theresa’s therapeutic approach is person-centred and practical, drawing on evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based approaches, trauma-informed care, and EMDR-informed strategies. I focus on supporting emotional regulation, trauma recovery, and strengthening long-term wellbeing.
In her spare time, Theresa enjoys spending time with her six children and five grandchildren. She is also continuing her academic journey and working toward a PhD.
